Gross error

In Metrology, gross errors are those attributable to inexperience or distraction of the operator who is making the measurement; may for example result from a wrong reading or by improper use of measuring instruments, or by incorrect transcriptions from experimental data or even erroneous processing of such data. These errors do not occur when measurements are taken with care and attention and in any case, can be eliminated by repeating the measurement.
